Resumo: With the presence of more than twenty countries represented by their Consumer, Metrology and Health authorities, competent in monitoring the safety of consumer products, the Regional Workshop on the Substantive and Procedural Aspects of the Inter-American Rapid Alerts System with emphasis on Risk Assessment, organized by the Consumer Safety and Health Network (CSHN) in the Head Quarters of the OAS in Washington, D.C. from July 21st to July 25th, 2014, ended with great success.

The first part of the workshop built on the knowledge and experiences generated in recent years and, thereafter, sought to identify similarities and differences between national market surveillance systems for product safety. Later, on July 24th and 25th, the authorities and specialists of the CSHN participating agencies had a dialog on the basic components of the hemispheric safety alerts that will be communicated in the first stage of the implementation of the Inter-American Rapid Alerts System (SIAR), attending also, on the 24th to a presentation of the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on the Rapid Alert System Caribbean (CARREX) –its implementation being still tested-, which aimed to integrate these efforts into the development of the SIAR, in the context of the OAS.
